May 2026 — What We Launched
May was a big month for the kiosk experience — we launched more control over how menus look and behave, expanded payment options, strengthened POS reliability, and made meaningful improvements to accessibility. Here's what went out the door.
Guest Experience
Custom Loading Animation — The animated graphic guests see while the kiosk is processing can now be customized with a brand-specific image or animation. It's a small thing, but it's one more moment in the flow where operators can reinforce their brand.
Quick Add by Menu Section — Quick Add lets guests add items to their cart in one tap, without going into a full customization screen. Previously it was all-or-nothing — either the whole menu had it or none of it did. Now operators can turn it on or off for specific sections of the menu, so it's available where it makes sense (drinks, sides) and disabled where guests need to make real choices (entrees with required modifiers).
Large-Image Modifier Groups — Modifiers like sauces, toppings, and add-ons can now be displayed with large images instead of text-only rows. For operators with strong visual branding or complex modifier sets, this makes the customization step feel more like the rest of the menu experience.
Grouped Page Navigation — For menus with a lot of categories, the navigation bar can now group related sections together with collapsible headers. Guests spend less time scrolling past irrelevant categories to find what they want.
Combo Upsell Prompts — At the right moment in the ordering flow, the kiosk can now prompt a guest to upgrade a single item to a combo. This is the kiosk equivalent of "would you like fries with that" — it's configurable per item and designed to lift average check without feeling pushy.
Unavailable Items Flagged Earlier in the Flow — If an item becomes unavailable while a guest is building their order, the kiosk now catches it during add-to-cart, item updates, and background menu validation — surfacing the issue earlier rather than letting guests reach checkout only to hit an error. Less frustration, fewer abandoned orders.
Session Recovery After Completion — Occasionally, after a guest finishes their order, the kiosk would get stuck on the "done" screen rather than resetting for the next guest. That's now fixed — the kiosk reliably returns to the cover screen after every session.
Accessibility
Full Loyalty Support in ADA/Audio Mode — For operators using STORM (our audio-guided accessibility mode), guests can now complete the full loyalty flow — signing in, scanning their card or app barcode, earning and redeeming rewards — all without touching the screen. This includes text-to-speech guidance at each step, support for both HID-connected and barcode-scanned loyalty cards, proper handling when a card isn't recognized, and correct behavior when a guest authenticates partway through an order. This is a significant expansion of what's possible on an ADA-accessible kiosk.
Operator Tools & Admin
SMG Survey Codes on Digital Receipts — Operators using SMG for guest feedback can now include unique survey codes on digital receipts, making it easy to connect a specific transaction to a post-visit survey response. Better data quality for operators who care about closing the loop on guest satisfaction.
Improved Receipt Reliability — Receipt rendering and print jobs are now server-backed, improving reliability in edge cases, particularly for loyalty flows where the kiosk session ends before the receipt triggers.
Updated Terms of Service & Privacy Copy — The terms of service and privacy policy text displayed on the kiosk have been updated, along with improvements to how rich-text legal copy is rendered on screen.
Payments
Elavon: Certification Support + Transaction Record Improvements — We launched a series of Elavon certification-related fixes, alongside improvements to how Elavon transactions are recorded, including RRN (retrieval reference number) mapping and transaction sequence persistence. These fields matter for dispute resolution and reconciliation.
Stored-Value and Campus Card Payment Support — Stored-value support expanded for two configurations: FreedomPay stored-value and gift card handling for supported setups, and CBORD Campus Card payments for university and campus dining environments. Reach out to your account team if you're interested in either.
POS & Menu Reliability
Simphony: Validation & Sync Improvements — Several fixes to our Oracle Simphony integration improved menu sync accuracy and reduced validation errors that were causing items to appear incorrectly or fail to load.
Combo Modifier Fix — Fixed a bug where setting a modifier to "selected by default" inside a combo builder was causing the combo to display incorrectly in some configurations. A small change but one that was quietly breaking combo presentation for affected operators.
